Kathmandu: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Yutaka Kikuta, lauded the special relations between Nepal and Japan, emphasizing the crucial role played by the JICA Alumni Association of Nepal (JAAN) in strengthening these enduring ties. Ambassador Kikuta made these remarks at a Sakura (Japanese Cherry) plantation program organized by JAAN in Lele, Godabari, marking its golden jubilee.
Akimitsu Okubo, Chief Representative of JICA Nepal, highlighted JAAN's contributions to community development in Nepal by providing Japanese volunteers and importing Japanese technology. He emphasized the significant role the association has played in fostering cooperation between the two nations.
Gajendra Maharjan, Mayor of Godabari Municipality, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the municipality and urged continued cooperation from the Japanese Embassy, JICA Nepal, and JAAN in the future.
Dr. Ram Chandra Bhusal, Chair of JAAN, shared that the association has been working on income generation and capacity building for the local community in Lele, Godavari, to enhance their livelihoods. He expressed confidence that the Sakura garden, developed by JAAN with 40 Japanese cherry saplings, will further strengthen Nepal-Japan relations.
JAAN celebrated its golden jubilee with various programs, including the creation of the Sakura garden. In recognition of its remarkable contributions to strengthening Nepal-Japan relations, Japan had awarded the Foreign Minister's Commendation to JAAN. The association, formed in 1973, comprises Nepali students who returned to Nepal after studying in Japan.
